(Windsor) The union representing public works employees with the Municipality of West Hants has applied for a conciliator to be appointed in their contract talks.

CUPE Local 4522, which is negotiating a first contract with West Hants, represents nine employees who work in water treatment, landfill operations and other services.

CUPE National Representative Peter Baxter says outstanding issues include overtime provisions, wages, job postings, layoff and recall language, hours of work and other minor items.

Says Baxter, We are reasonably close on most of these issues, so with the help of a conciliator were hopeful that we can reach a negotiated settlement.

The municipality is currently in a surplus situation, and employees are well aware of that, says Baxter.

Bargaining has been ongoing since November, 2002.
