Halifax, NS - CUPE local 2618 and the Municipality of the County of Kings have signed a new collective agreement. The agreement, signed on July 27, provides wage increases of 2.5, 2 and 2 per cent over the life of the three-year contract.

The agreement also provides the workers with access to the Multi-Sector Pension Plan (MSPP), as well as improvements to collective agreement language.

CUPE National Representative Naomi Stewart said, “This was a very good round of bargaining. Along with the wage increases and language improvements, access to the MSPP is a major gain for these workers.”

“The MSPP is a multi-employer pension plan. It was established to give smaller groups of workers a better opportunity to plan for their future. In addition to the County of Kings employees, the plan also includes a number of other employee groups represented by CUPE throughout the country,” explained Stewart.

Stewart said, “These workers are the first group in Nova Scotia to access the plan. We hope to build on this gain and move forward to secure the same pension coverage for other groups that we represent in the province.”
