The President of the Alberta Division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) is speaking out against the Conservative Government’s attempts to legislate an end to the lock out at Canada Post.
“First they lock out their employees, halting postal service in the country – then they decide they can’t live without them and force them to work through legislation,” said Marle Roberts, president of CUPE Alberta.
Roberts was particularly shocked that the legislation directs an arbitrator to set wages at a lower level than Canada Post was offering in negotiations.
“The Harper government is going way beyond trying to restore postal service – they are punishing postal workers for taking legal job action,” said Roberts. “The Conservatives should let the parties work it out and stop trying to impose their will on Canadian workers.”
