Members of CUPE Local 5167 in Hamilton donated blood on April 5th at a local blood-donor clinic, organized to raise awareness of the April 28 Workers Day of Mourning.

In addition to mourning for workers who have been killed or injured on the job, we wanted to donate blood as a symbol of hope for workers who are severely injured on the job and require blood to save their lives, said Ed Thomas, Health and Safety activist and member of CUPE Local 5167.

Brother Thomas worked closely with other local union members and Hamilton East NDP MPP Andrea Horvath to promote giving blood in Hamilton and across the country, and to show respect and gratitude for workers who build strong communities in Canada.

Donating blood is another opportunity to build solidarity among workers, and we encourage other union members to give blood at their local Canadian Blood Services clinic, said Thomas.
