Contract negotiations between the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4580 and the University of Windsor have reached an impasse. CUPE 4580 represents approximately 900 graduate and teaching assistants.

The parties will be in a legal strike or lockout position sometime the week of February 17 if an agreement is not reached.

In the current academic year, the University of Windsor has implemented its largest ever, one-time increase in tuition fees. Increases range from 4.5% to 41% and affect all teaching and graduate assistants. Additional increases are projected for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Union has scheduled a strike vote for 6 p.m., February 6 at the CAW Student Centre, Ambassador Auditorium on the University Campus.
