A tentative agreement has been reached between Local 255 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 255) and Bruce Telecom (BT).

The two parties reached the agreement May 20, with the assistance of a Federally-appointed mediator.

The proposed settlement will be presented to CUPE 255 members for review and a ratification vote on June 3 in Kincardine.

Both CUPE 255 and BT have agreed there will be no disruption in service until both parties have had the opportunity to review the agreement and hold votes on whether to accept or reject. Accordingly, a previously-scheduled deadline of May 29 for either a lockout or strike is no longer in effect.

Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed by CUPE 255 until the membership has had an opportunity to review its contents and decide for themselves whether or not to accept it.

Therefore, the union will be making no further comment until after the June 3 ratification vote.
