TORONTO - Negotiators for Local 1600 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have reached a tentative agreement with their employer, the Toronto Zoo.

The agreement was reached shortly after 2 a.m. April 26, following a marathon round of bargaining.

Details of the agreement are not being disclosed until members have had an opportunity to review and vote on the agreement. Accordingly, there will be no further public comment from Local 1600’s leadership until that has taken place.

A ratification vote will be held early next week.

Local 1600 represents more than 400 zookeepers, horticulturalists, trades people, maintenance, administration and public relations staff, concession and ride operators at Canada’s largest zoo.
