The city council in Cranbrook, B.C. will move ahead with contracting-in maintenance and management of its recreation complex after a petition against the move gathered only two signatures.

According to city bylaws, the petition would have required the council to reconsider the move if it had received 1,086 signatures.

Six technicians members of CUPE Local 2090 will now be employed directly by the city.
