COQUITLAM, B.C.- Coquitlam school board workers voted 88.4% in favour of a strike last night.

It was the largest strike vote turnout in CUPE local 561s history.

The local is seeking a compensation package similar to that given to the teachers (2.5% in each year of a three year agreement).

If that package is good enough for one group of school board workers, said Local 561 president Dave Ginter, then it should be good enough for other school board workers.

The outstanding issues when bargaining ended on March 4 included job security, as well as the wage package.

CUPE Local 561 represents approximately 900 support employees of school district 43.
