Sydney Contract talks between CUPE Local 2733 and Compass have broken off. The union represents 30 employees, who are the cleaning staff at UCCB.
CUPE National Representative Kathy MacLeod says, This local has casuals that are now in the bargaining unit and the employer wants them excluded, so they can pay them a lower rate. We are not prepared to see this happen.
Says MacLeod, Weve had eight bargaining sessions and have reached an impasse. Were now requesting the Department of Labour appoint a Conciliator.
Other outstanding issues include wages, benefits and other contract language.
