(Sydney) – Contract talks between CUPE and the University College of Cape Breton got underway today.

CUPE Local 3131 represents 75 employees at UCCB. They are the support staff including, secretaries, mailroom staff, switchboard operators, cashiers, administrative assistants, graphic technicians and more.

Their contract expired almost two years ago (March 31, 2001). Catch up will be a significant factor in this round of talks.

Major issues in this round of bargaining include:
  • Salaries
  • Working conditions
  • Job security
  • Benefits
  • Pensions

UCCB recently settled with two other bargaining units, NSGEU and the Faculty Association (FAUT), who received significant wage increases.
