More than 100 community social services workers and their allies protested the “flood” of cutbacks to the services they deliver by “sandbagging” a government office in Victoria on January 9.

The care providers – including CUPE members in HEU and social service locals, BCGEU and HSA – were protesting government plans to cut funding to the Ministry of Children and Family Development by more than 30 per cent.

They say the cuts will hurt their clients – some of British Columbia’s most vulnerable citizens.

The Liberals are also preparing to gut the collective agreements that community social services workers fought so hard for in 1999. That means fair wages, good working conditions and job security are in danger and good care is at risk.

Members in BC are encouraged to download a petition and get your family, neighbours and co-workers to sign it. You can find the petition at heu.org/bobpetition.pdf
