VANCOUVER—CUPE 4500 members recently ratified a contract agreement with Coast Mountain Bus Company (CMBC) Wednesday evening.

“This agreement came after a long haul,” said Rob Woods, president of CUPE 4500. “It took seven months of bargaining to come to an agreement that included improvements in wages, benefits and protection language.”

The agreement between CUPE 4500 and Coast Mountain Bus Company comes on the heels of membership giving their bargaining committee a strong mandate for job action.

“Supervisors are dealing with new technology and greater responsibilities and this contract recognizes that,” explains Woods. “The job evaluation process for some members of our local proved to be a challenge in this round of negotiations, and we are still working to resolve this.”

The deal was reached on Thursday, May 15 and was ratified by members on Wednesday, May 21. It covers over 160 transit supervisors, shift supervisors, and T-Com department supervisors working throughout the Lower Mainland. They have been in negotiations for the past seven months.
