MPs from all parties voted 175 to 123 against the motion to re-open the same-sex marriage debate brought to the house by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.  “CUPE has long championed the right of same-sex couples to marry should they choose,” said Paul Moist, CUPE National President.  In 2003 CUPE made a submission to the House of Commons in support of same-sex marriage. “This is great news coming on the heels of CUPE’s first national Human Rights Conference where members reinvigorated this union’s desire to work in support of human rights for all people,” said Claude Généreux, CUPE’s National Secretary Treasurer.
