City of Chateauguay blue-collar workers, who are affiliated with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), will be on strike for 48 hours on Thursday and Friday, September 17th and 18th.

It should be noted, however, that these workers will continue to provide essential services affecting the health and safety of the population, and that the work stoppage will begin at one minute past midnight on Thursday.

Without a contract since 31 December 2007, the blue-collar workers have been negotiating for almost two years. The main obstacle in the negotiations has been the impact of the construction of a multi-sport complex that the City plans to build through a public-private partnership (PPP).

The City of Chateauguay workforce currently has about 80 regular blue-collar workers.
