Trois-Rivir0065s, Wednesday, December 18, 2002 After more than seven hours of talks in the presence of a conciliator from the Ministr0065 du Travail, the Union represented by CUPE was unable to obtain a firm commitment from management on the framework for a comprehensive contract settlement, and activated the strike mandate that it had already postponed on December 5, 2002.

The framework for a pay settlement sought by the Union would ensure parity with employees at the Champlain waste burial site.

Employees will decide today if the strike launched this morning will continue over the holiday period, given that the conciliator should be calling both sides to another conciliation session shortly.
