CLARENCE-ROCKLAND (Ontario) A special 40th anniversary celebration of municipal child care in Clarence-Rockland will take place on National Child Day, November 20, highlighting the important role this vital public service plays in the lives of local families and honouring the dedicated staff who care for the community’s children.

Hosting the occasion is Local 503 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents the hard-working employees of the city’s child care centres.

The union has organized a reception and plaque unveiling on National Child Day in appreciation of the high-quality public service operated by the City of Clarence-Rockland.

“Residents of Clarence-Rockland can be very proud of the municipal child care services that the city has provided to its families over the past 40 years,” said Brian Madden, president of CUPE Local 503. “And the services continue to thrive, thanks to the commitment of the residents of Clarence-Rockland, the city’s elected representatives, and the workers who make children’s education, well being and safety their priorities.”

Clarence-Rockland is one of only 47 municipal or regional governments to operate child care centres under the province’s Day Nurseries Act. Its range of services, for toddlers through to school-age children, is a highly valued community resource and blends early childhood education with child care to give the best possible start to the community’s children.

Members of the media are invited to attend a celebration and plaque unveiling to mark the 40th anniversary of municipal child care services in the city:

Date and Time: Thursday, November 20 at 10:00 a.m.

Venue:  Le Carrousel Child Care Centre (next to Clarence-Rockland Municipal Office), 1560 Laurier Street, Rockland, Ontario

Also attending will be the families, friends, staff and the children of Clarence-Rockland child care centres.
