As if the various free trade agreements werent enough, the latest big idea coming from the likes of the CD Howe Institute is deep integration.

This rather creepy sounding term is code for such initiatives as:

a common security perimeter with the US

a North American identity card

adopting the US dollar as our currency

opening up our health care system to US health care providers.

The Council of Canadians is organizing public forums across the country to explore these issues and to develop a strategy to oppose deep integration.
