(St. John’s) – CUPE local 4885, representing 130 cafeteria workers in the eastern region of the Eastern School district, have ratified their first collective agreement with Compass Group Canada.

The agreement is effective from June 1, 2009 and expires on May 31, 2011.

The deal includes seniority rights, better access to vacancies and bumping rights.

CUPE NL President Wayne Lucas says, “We are very pleased that local 4885 have ratified their first collective agreement”.

Lucas says, “This was a respectful round of collective bargaining which sets the tone for the next 2 years. I offer my sincere congratulations to the newest members of CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador”.

Compass Group Canada’s David Seymour says, “We are pleased that the contract has been ratified and we look forward to working harmoniously with local 4885”.
