B.C. Citizens for Public Power is launching a province-wide tour of “PEOPLE POWER: Building Social Movements to Protect Public Power in Canada”, a new DVD on how to organize community coalitions to protect public electricity and fight the privatization of our rivers and BC Hydro.
The film premieres on Sunday, October 3 at SFU Harbour Centre at 6:00 p.m. (Joseph & Rosalie Segal Centre, Rooms 1400-1420). The premiere opens with a wine and cheese reception, followed by presentations by ecologist/activist Rex Weyler and documentary filmmaker Damien Gillis. The 8:00pm screening will be followed by a Q&A session.
“The only force between us and the complete loss of our natural resources are the people themselves,” Rex Weyler, co-founder of Greenpeace, says in Part One of “PEOPLE POWER.” Weyler will be on hand at the premiere to discuss the film and take questions.

Speaker Biographies:
Rex Weyler served as a director of the original Greenpeace Foundation in Vancouver and as editor of the Greenpeace Chronicles. Weyler speaks around the world on environmental topics and he appears regularly in The Tyee, Common Dreams, and is presently writing a book about ecology and economy.
Damien Gillis is a Vancouver-based documentary filmmaker with a focus on environmental and social justice issues - especially relating to water, energy, and saving Canada’s wild salmon. He is the co-founder of The Common Sense Canadian, and a board member of both the BC Environmental Network and the Haig-Brown Institute.
