Longueuil, Wednesday, November 13 at ll:20 p.m. – This evening, Longueuil’s blue collar workers (CUPE-307, FTQ) voted 93% in favour of initiating pressure tactics. Some 350 union members attending a general meeting gave their Executive the mandate to introduce pressure tactics which could go as far as a strike.

In Longueuil, the employees’ dissatisfaction is due to poor labour relations. According to the Union, all the disputes could be settled if the City would change its attitude. Following this evening’s vote, the union representatives hope for a rapid return to the bargaining table with the employer, to identify possible solutions.

CUPE represents some 70% of all municipal employees in Qub0065c. In addition to the municipalities, CUPE is active in 10 other sectors in Qub0065c, including health and social services, education, urban and air transportation, hydroelectricity, government corporations and public organizations in Qub0065c and communications. With close to 100,000 members in Qub0065c, it is the largest FTQ affiliate
