NOVA SCOTIA

Thumbs up… to the Nova Scotia government for reviewing 17 outstanding lease-back school projects and rejecting the previous government’s accounting shell game. Let’s hope they see the writing on the wall: P3 schools cost more than publicly financed and owned schools. Cancel the request for proposals and stop the P3 experiment once and for all.

Thumbs down… to the Halifax Regional Municipality for turning to the private sector to finance, build and own much-needed wastewater treatment facilities. The harbour cleanup is a top priority, but it must also be a public priority.

Thumbs up… to the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board for cancelling plans to contract out school bus services.
