Wage and pay equity adjustments that were on hold during the recent ratification vote will be paid retroactive to their effective date of April 1, 2003.

After members rejected the tentative agreement reached with government last month, the Hospital Employees’ Union immediately told health employers that it expects the retroactive 3.2 per cent general wage increase and targeted pay equity adjustments to be paid.

HEU secretary-business manager Chris Allnutt says health employers should take steps to pay the adjustments immediately.

He also criticized the provincial government for refusing to fund the negotiated increases and said that front-line health services to patients and residents would suffer as a result.
