Trois-Rivières, Wednesday, June 4, 2014  – Late last night, a tentative agreement was reached between the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and its support staff union, the Syndicat des employées et employés de soutien (CUPE 1800), for the renewal of their collective agreement.

At a general meeting to be held by the end of next week, the members of the union will vote on the tentative agreement by secret ballot. Out of respect for its members, the union will allow them to familiarize themselves with the content of the agreement before commenting on it publicly. The union leaders will recommend approving the agreement in principle.

With about 350 members, CUPE 1800 represents the university’s clerical, trades and services groups, as well as its technical group.

With more than 111,000 members in Quebec, CUPE represents some 10,400 members in universities, mostly support staff. CUPE is also present in the following sectors: health and social services, communications, education, energy, municipalities, Quebec government corporations and public agencies, urban and air transport, and the mixed sector.
