Kenora municipal workers, members of CUPE 191, have reached an 11th hour settlement with the City and will not strike on Monday, January 28.

We are pleased to have been able to avert a strike,” said Jerry Lava, CUPE national representative, leading the negotiations.

One of the main things now is for us to thank the residents and citizens of Kenora for their support.  Many, many people here called the mayor and their city councillor telling them to go back to the table and give us a fair deal.  It worked.  We have a good contract that satisfies both the workers and the City.

We too are members of this community and we did not look forward to withdrawing our services and leaving our friends and neighbours without their public services.  The community knew that they trusted us as friends and neighbours, and their support helped us settle this dispute,” Lava concluded.
